iPod Nano Video TV

For the launch of the Apple iPod Nano video in South Africa we created the TV spot below, featuring local duo Fire Through The Window. The ad turned out to not only launch the iPod nano, but also help launch the song to getting playlisted.

Cell C Retail Benefits TV

Cellular company Cell C briefed us to come up with eight 15-second TV spots to advertise eight of their key benefits. Below are 3 three of the 8 ads we came up with.

Cell C "Operation Charlie Charlie"

Cell C, the third largest South African cellular company wanted to advertise their nationwide cellular coverage.

Our solution used TV, press and radio PR and was launched with a breaking news report that featured alongside the TV evening news. A massive 30 meter crop circle was found on a farm just outside of Johannesburg. The following day featured another newsbreak, announcing the appearance of a second crop circle. Day 3 and Day 4 brought even more news on the strange phenomenon. Each day’s TV news was assisted with radio DJ coverage of the story, as well as print and viral e-mail carrying updates on the strange phenomenon. Day 5’s reports revealed that the last few circles aligned perfectly to form the brand’s logo. Coincidentally, it was April 1, April Fool’s Day.

MTN 8

After working on South Africa's third largest cellular network, I moved on to Africa's largest: MTN. Tapping into one of Africa's greatest loves - football, MTN sponsors a football knockout tournament called MTN8. The season's top 8 teams compete for R8 million (£600 000). The fans make a big show of going to these games; dressing up in elaborate costumes and earning the coveted title of No.1 fan. The fans also nicknamed the tournament 'wafa wafa', meaning 'do or die' in Zulu. For this campaign, we took the zealous fans and transformed them into warrior, each representing their team: Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Freestate Stars, Ajax Cape Town, Golden Arrows, Amazulu FC, Wits University and Supersport United.

Young Designers' Emporium (YDE)

Young Designers' Emporium is a South African clothing store that serves as a platform for young and relatively unknown designers. The brand has positioned itself as young and cutting edge and the in-store window design had to be conceptual and highly visual. Below are two examples of my take on that brief.

Automobile Association

The Automobile Association (AA) came to us a well-known but worn out and tired brand. Not only did we have the job of breathing new life into it, but we were also tasked with launching their new division: the AA Autobay - geared towards helping the public buy and sell used cars safely and efficiently.

Here are a few examples of the work we did for them:

5FM Jobsaver

We created this campaign to promote South African national radio station 5FM and their famous midweek parties. The idea was to create a series of products that equip party goers with everything they would need to make it through the next day at work.

The first was a piece of software for Mac and PC that simulated work being done on your computer screen, all while you're catching up on some sleep.

The software was distributed via e-mail and direct mail invitations linked to midweek concerts and parties :

A viral infomercial advertised the array of products geared toward making it look as though you're awake, even though you're catnapping at your desk.

Engen Calendar

South Africa petrolium giant, Engen, wanted a calendar that highlighted different aspects of their diverse business, but they had no budget. So we chose 12 business sectors - one for each month of the year and, armed with the agency camera I visited each location and found 365 different numbers to shoot - one for each day of the year.

DriveAlive

Every Festive Season the death tolls on South African roads rise to alarming highs due to drunken and careless driving. During November/December of 2006 we created this ad for DriveAlive - an organisation dedicated to upping awareness and bringing down the number of road related injuries and fatalities.

Rethink The Shark

Modeled on the famous "jaws" attack scene, this ad urged people to, as the name of the charity suggests 'Rethink The Shark." Yes, it was a real brief from a real client - Cape Town based Two Oceans Aquarium launched a Shark Awareness week after a spate of shark attacks caused an enormous outcry of public alarm.

National Council Against Smoking

As the header suggests, this pro-active, pro-bono ad is in aid of local anti-smoking charity: National Council Against Smoking. A little bit of a new take on ye olde "you're probably gonna die" concept.
